Why meditate

How to meditate

Here is a simple guide to meditation:

bulletSit in a relaxed posture in a quiet place.
bullet Keep the back straight.
bullet Close the eyes.
bullet Start to watch the blue-black space that appears in front of the eyes.
bullet What power is it that is watching the black space? How is it that we are aware?
bullet Keep sitting in silence letting the attention flow on the background space of consciousness.
bullet Be alert to any happenings that occur while sitting - sounds, feelings in the body, emotions or thoughts. Keep watching the happenings, but don't put energy into following them. If thoughts get us involved and want to distract us from the background space, recognize that these are just thoughts coming and going. We don’t give them power or more energy by trying to get rid of them. These thoughts will naturally dissipate on their own by patiently watching the background space and staying alert.
bullet Another simple technique in staying focused is to repeat "I am pure being" ... "I am pure being" ... "I am pure being" ... silently inside while watching the space in-between the thoughts "I am pure being" ... "I am pure being" ...  The energy of thought will collect into a pure, relaxed, focused, healing stream.  As we become more and more absorbed into a state of tranquility, we can gradually increase the gaps in-between thoughts.  After repeating "I am pure being" for some time we can let go of the thought completely.  Then we just watch our inner space in peace and alertness.
bullet Sit for as long as comfortably possible. When we feel the need to get up, we get up. No need to force anything in meditation. We don't have to meditate overlong. And while meditating, we should feel easy to shift our position, take a lungful of air, roll our neck, etc.
